Indeed, it’s this latter innovation – true community feedback on what can and should be in the browser, and then the development process to deliver it – that I find most striking. Mozilla is asking everyone – not merely developers – to get involved. When was the last time you saw a company do that or, more importantly, provide the means to actually be able to do it?

The thing with Firefox is that its our Loved Browser. IE may have the largest share, Opera may have some nice features, Maxthon may be hugely under rated but in a bunch of Internet/Computer enthusiasts its inevitable that Firefox makes its way into the conversation! One of the main reasons for this is the vast amount of customizations and productivity enhancements that Firefox has to offer.

Firefox 3 Plugin Roundup

Now that Firefox 3 has been out for more than a week – and has set a new Guinness World Record for the most downloads in a single day – several websites have begun recapping the plugin/addon situation for Firfox.

The official release of Firefox 3 may be slated to drop on Tuesday, but the folks at Mozilla have already started drafting features for Firfox 3.1, like a Windows Alt-Tab-style for the Ctrl-Tab switcher.

Many people contributed to the work involved in adding these new features and the many other new CSS features in Firefox 3. The work in rewriting our graphics architecture was particularly important, and led to a number of these new features (and should lead to more new features in future firfox download). These contributions include a lot more than just writing code.

The new version will be released simultaneously for Windows and the Mac’s OS X operating system, as well as for Linux. While each of the three editions will have the visual style of the operating system on which it runs, all three will have the same features.

A guy named Mike Beltzner has created a screencast of the new features in the new Firfox 3 Download. Features covered in the Firefox screencast include: malware protection, the new Location bar autocomplete functionality, one-click bookmarking using the new star button, bookmark tags, the site identity button, improvements to the file download user interface and the built-in Add-ons browser.

For Mac/PC/Linux etc.

The programmers and development teams at Mozilla are working hard to get things flawless with the Firfox 3 browser. To reach their lofty goals they are releasing yet another release candidate. Dubbed Firfox 3 RC2, it has a few fixes from the first release candidate. Unlike the first release which might have had some very unstable features still, the RC2 is definitely a stable browser to test out and a reliable Firfox download.

Firefox boosted its share by 0.6% in May, accounting for 18.4% of the browsers used during the month and putting it within shouting distance of a major milestone, according to Net Applications Inc. “Firefox is trending to hit 20% market share sometime in July,” said Vince Vizzaccaro, the company’s executive vice president of marketing, in an e-mail regarding the Firfox Download.

Firefox 3 Timeline

“It’ll be ready when it’s ready.”

That’s the basic response from Mozilla.

Mozilla decided to release a second release candidate for Firefox 3.0 at a meeting on Tuesday, in response to the discovery of 10 performance and stability bugs. The alternative would have been to patch these potential “showstoppers” after the browser shipped. But another round of testing is the safer option – not least from the standpoint of public relations. This will probably set back the official launch and Firfox download options by five days or so.
